8th Grade January Updates from Sarah Baker
Dear 8th grade parents,
Congratulations to Eleanor Campbell for getting first place in the school-level National Geographic Geography Bee on Thursday, January 7. She answered challenging questions related to world geography, and was cool, calm, and collected throughout the entire bee. I am confident she will represent us well at regionals!
On Thursday, January 14, there will be a PA meeting in Jones Theatre at 8:00am. The featured speaker is Sandy Costa, who will deliver a presentation on leadership and critical strategies for building trust.
On Friday, January 15, the school will participate in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. This is a half day for all students, and eighth grade will be volunteering off campus for the majority of the morning. Students will be serving in various ways including, but not limited to: delivering and organizing clothes for Note in the Pocket, gleaning collard greens for the Society of Saint Andrew`s feeding the hungry program, and setting permanent butterfly houses at Falls Lake Visitors Center. These opportunities directly correlate to many of the Ravens in Action interests which students have selected for their capstone project this year. We will leave for our various services shortly after the service assembly at school, and we will all be back on campus by noon for the early dismissal. Please contact myself or Tim Phillips if you have any questions.
The online auction will take place from January 22 – 29. There will be some fun middle school teacher experiences and campus perks for sale!
First semester report cards will be posted to Veracross on Saturday, January 23. Parent conferences will be held on Thursday, January 28, and students are expected to attend this time. The online conference sign-up will be available soon.
Our next eighth grade pizza/dress down day is on Friday, January 29. Robyn and Michelle will communicate with you when they beginning coordinating volunteers.
Finally, the Gatsby Gala is being held on Saturday, February 6. It is the school’s hope that you will be able to attend, but if not, you can still participate in the silent auction that evening.
Have a great weekend,
