8th Grade September Update from Mrs. Sarah Baker
Dear 8th Grade Families,
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! The 8th grade advisors and I spent the first day introducing students to the privileges they have as the oldest in the middle school: eating lunch outside of the middle school instead of in the dining room, monthly pizza lunch/dress down days, and a friendly, year-long advisory competition.Advisory points began, and Senora Barnwell and Mr. Phillips’ advisories are currently in the lead after their t-shirt designs won the contest. We can especially look forward to seeing Mia Bitman’s beautiful artwork featured on the back of the shirt!
Our first 8th grade pizza lunch/dress down day is Friday, September 1. Please see the Sign-Up Genius if you are interested in helping. Special thanks to our Grade-Level Reps, Michelle O’Donnell and Julie McGinnis, for coordinating our pizza lunches this year.
The GoPlaySave fundraiser will run from August 31 – September 19. New this year: LS and MS students who sell at least three books can participate in the first-ever GoPlaySave dress down day on September 28!
The Faculty/Staff Appreciation Lunch is on October 4. The theme is “Kick-off the School Year – Come tailgate with us!” Please take this opportunity to show our faculty and staff how much they are appreciated. If you are interested in helping, please sign up to cook.
We are looking forward to meeting all of you at Parent Night on Wednesday, September 13 at 6:30pm. In the meantime, I am including additional important dates to mark on your calendar.
- Wednesday, October 4: Middle School Lead From Here Community Day, 12-3pm
- Wednesday, October 11: 8th grade parent meeting for Washington, DC field trip, 7pm
- Monday-Wednesday, November 6-8: 8th grade field trip to Washington, DC
Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. Thank you in advance for all of your support in making this year a memorable and successful one for our students.
