6th Grade Update from Scott Ringenbach and Teresa Taylor
We certainly enjoyed seeing many of you on Parent Night. As students become comfortable in their routines, new supplies like sharpened pencils are being put to good use as students work diligently in their classes. Resources like the Chromebook and assignment notebook are constant friends as they learn how to use these to support their learning. Many of the “first” assessments in various classes have been given, and students are learning how to use strategies to prepare for more. We are busy and productive!
In sixth grade, we reference the character tree with its trunk of courage often. If your child was in lower school at Ravenscroft, he/she knows the character tree well; nevertheless, we have many who are new to our community and some of the ideas represented in this important symbol. Our faculty encourages the ideas represented in this symbol as we connect these to our Lead from Here framework. Students will be introduced to some key concepts connected to this framework on our first community day on 10/4. In sixth grade, we emphasize Leading Self throughout the year as we encourage students to be self-aware, growth-minded, resilient, motivated and accountable. Our advisory lessons revolve around these principles.
We are also working with the Social Institute to assist students in making sound choices involving social media which also connects to our framework. Mr. Wes Brown, Middle School Instructional Technology Specialist, will be facilitating lessons to your students during the next two eight-day cycles during their technology rotations. As advisors, we look forward to facilitating follow-up discussions which, in turn, invite insight you can give as these conversations are continued at home. If you have any questions about the School’s partnership with The Social Institute, please feel free to touchbase with Mr. Brown or Mrs. Sarah Loyola, Director of Educational Technology.
Speaking of conversations, ask your child about his/her King Arthur research, the three plans of reconstruction after the Civil War, mean, median and mode, and inquire about how to use a triple beam balance! Much of this content is new, and we strive to make it exciting.
