6th Grade March Update from Scott Ringenbach and Teresa Taylor
Dear 6th Grade Parents,
Our students have been adaptive and resilient this month in the face of CTP-IV testing, special events, and schedule changes. Amidst all of these happenings, students enjoyed recent opportunities to serve in various ways as part of our continual focus on service. In addition, students participated in Pi day where they collaborated to solve various problems to the sound of a spirited playlist. We appreciate the assistance that many parents offered toward making this day a success.
In advisory, we are preparing for our first student-led conference where a growth-mindset is helpful. Students have been reflecting on their progress as learners and members of our community, and they are looking ahead toward goals for the rest of the year. We look forward to seeing you on April 4 after the half-day of instruction for this conference. These conferences will last fifteen minutes each.
Students are reflecting about their growth and upcoming goals in advisory as they look to finish this year with a sense of accomplishment. This mid-semester report card grade does not reflect a final grade, but serves as a checkpoint on progress.
In classes, we are building upon the skill-sets we have taught and continue to review. Effectively writing a thorough paragraph which clearly supports a topic is a chief objective across the curriculum. In addition, applying grammar and conventions to craft more complex sentences with specific word choice to enhance communication is an area of focus as we continue in the semester.
As spring approaches with more daylight to enjoy after school activities, we encourage plenty of bedtime sleep away from cell phones and video games.
A reminder that there is an information session for parents of rising 7th grade students on March 20, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Parents’ Association room.
Important Upcoming Dates:
- Friday, March 23: Snow make-up day (noon dismissal)
- Thursday, March 29: Easter/Passover Chapel (10:10am, Finley)
- Saturday, March 31: Semester report cards available through Parent Portal
Thank you for your partnership,
Scott, Teresa, and the 6th Grade Team
