3rd Grade – New Year!

Hello!  Welcome back to school and the general music classroom!  We have jumped right in with music and have started learning many songs in the music classroom.  We have been actively working on keeping the steady beat of the music and how the steady beat is the heart of the music.  We also have been working on reading rhythms with our rhythm syllables that go along with our note reading and playing instruments to our rhythms.  We have been working on identifying the form of music, specifically ABA form, also known as ternary form.

An example of our first run through with instruments can be found below if you click the link.

(Mr. Hoover’s class kept a steady beat with the egg shakers and they could play any two notes on the xylophones/metallophones.)

In preparations for our first singing opportunity in front of an audience, we have started working on the Army Song for our Veteran’s Day Program.

We are excited to invite you to our Veteran’s Day Program on the 9th of November at 8:15am in the Lower School Gym.

I have provided the words below for the Army and the music with singing and the accompaniment for practicing at home. Please let me know if you have any questions!  Thanks!

Army Song

Over hill
Over dale
We will hit the dusty trail
And those caissons go rolling along
In and out
Hear them shout
Countermarch
And right about
And those caissons go rolling along
Then it’s Hi! Hi! Hee!
In the field artillery
Sound off your numbers
Loud and strong
For where’er you go
You will always know
That the caissons are rolling along

For The Good Of The Many

For our homeland, for our country,
for all you had to do.
For the freedom you defended,
we will remember you.

For the good of the many,
so give the few.
For the good of the many,
so give the few.

For your courage, for your honor,
for all we asked of you.
For the people, for the nation,
your sacrifice was true.

For the good of the many,
so give the few.
For the good of the many,
so give the few.
The few.

The Air Force

Off we go into the wild blue yonder,

Climbing high into the sun.

Here they come zooming to meet our thunder

At ’em boys, Give ‘er the gun!

Down we dive, spouting our flame from under

Off with one terrible course!

We live in fame or go down in flame.

Hey! Nothing can stop the U.S. Air Force!

We’re always ready for the call,
We place our trust in Thee.
Through surf and storm and howling gale,
High shall our purpose be.
“Semper Paratus” is our guide,
Our fame and glory too.
To fight to save to fight and die,
Aye! Coast Guard, we are for you!

And forever in peace may you wave
You’re the emblem of
The land I love
The home of the free and the brave
Every heart beats true
Under red white and blue
Where there’s never a boast or brag
Should all acquaintance be forgot
Keep your eye on the grand old flag
The grand old flag

Song of the River

Can you hear the song of the river, the voice of the gentle stream?
It sings as it spills and slumbers, then it flows swift and sure to the sea.
My song is like the river, growing stronger as years flow by.
And time makes bother more lovely, the river’s song and mine.
Can you hear the song of the river, singing on when the storm clouds roll?
Though wind and rain pass over stronger still, the river flows.
My song is like the river running sure under stormy skies.
And the rain makes both more lovely, the river’s song and mine.
(Descant) –
Come here the river when storm clouds roll,
though rains pass over, still, the river flows.
Both grow more lovely, the river’s song and mine.
Both grow more lovely, the river’s song and mine.

And the rain makes moth more lovely the river’s song and mine.
The rain makes both more lovely, the river’s song and mine.

Like The Beat Of A Drum

There’s a change on the horizon.  There’s a change that’s sure to come.
And that change is strong and steady, like the beat of a drum.
In each life there is a spirit.  In each spirit, there’s a light.
And the light is there to guide us, like a bacon in the night.
Let your light be a promise. May it shine with brilliant glow.
Let your light be a light of freedom.  Let it burn, and let it grow.
Keep your hope in times of trouble. Keep your faith in what is right.
Let your heart forever guide you to the truth and to the light.
Let your light be a light of promise.  May it shine with a brilliant glow.
Let your light be a light of freedom.  Let it burn, and let it grow.
There’s a change on the horizon.  There’s a change that’s sure to come.
And that change is strong and steady, like the beat of a drum,
like the beat of a drum.
Like the beat, like the beat, like the beat of a drum! Drum! Drum!
