Happy New Year!
Science Olympiad Club is organized to provide Upper School student event coaches for Lower School student Olympians, organized weekly by competition periods. Students should only attend club meetings for the periods in which they are competing, i.e. if they only have a period 1 event they only attend the club meetings on period 1 dates. See club dates below or the LS master calendar. The complete event assignments are here: S.O. event assignments by period & partner.
Thanks to those who have signed up to provide snacks and drinks for the club. There are still plenty of dates that need a snack provider. snack signup
While all events require considerable home-time preparation, students seeking to participate in 3,2,1 Blastoff; Bridge-a-Roni; Duct Tape Challenge; Stem Design Challenge; or Trajeggtory will need to budget many hours for building, rebuilding, and refining their event devices prior to the competition. And parents, this is a student competition! (Re)reading event rules and event resources, procuring supplies, scheduling event participant get-togethers, and providing encouragement are recommended ways to help. Building your Olympian’s rocket or pasta bridge is not allowed. At a minimum, teams for 3,2,1 Blastoff, Bridge-a-roni, and Trajeggtory must bring in their rocket, bridge, or Egg device for testing on the dates specified below.
For additional information about any of this year’s event rules, including specific event resources, please see the Division A Coaches Manual. Event rules are very specific. Not following all event rules is usually grounds for disqualification! Event resources are very helpful. Medal winners pay attention to the event resources! Please do check in with your Olympian about their event rules and resources regularly!
