It will soon be time to trade in the beach traffic for the carpool lines, and to transition from worrying about whether your children are wearing enough sunscreen to instead worrying about whether they have finished all of their homework. Most importantly, however, it will be time to celebrate the start of another school year filled with opportunities for your children to learn and grow as they continue on their journeys to be the best they can be.
RESPECT. This one word captures the focus of the Lower School this year. We will be working hard as a community to ensure that we are respecting ourselves, respecting each other, and respecting our learning spaces on a daily basis. This summer we have spent time reviewing and revising our Lower School Handbook and have made changes that reflect our commitment to providing your children with the best possible environment in which to learn and grow. Printed versions of the handbook will be sent home with students on the first day of school, and we ask that each one of you spend time reviewing it with your children. The Statement of Community section is an important section that outlines our expectations for behavior and includes the new honor code and dress code.
Please join me in welcoming some outstanding educators to the Lower School faculty. After reviewing hundreds of resumes and interviewing many qualified candidates, we have found exceptional teachers to join our community. They are passionate, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable, and I am eager for you to meet them. You can review their complete bios on the list of new full faculty and staff sent in the Opening of School mailing.

As I enter my second year as the Head of Lower School, I look forward to strengthening my relationships with all of you. One of my personal goals this year is to create an environment where all of you feel comfortable coming to me to share your thoughts, questions, joys, and concerns. Please visit this blog to stay informed about all the exciting things going on throughout the year in Lower School and to read some of my personal thoughts and reflections. This blog serves as my main source of written communication with parents and is updated at least twice a month.
I look forward to seeing all new Ravenscroft students and their parents on August 21 for orientation and all of our students on August 22! In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss any questions or comments you may have. You may reach me by phone at (919) 861-2110, ext. 2542 or email at email@example.com.
Enjoy the last few weeks of summer!
