Excitement is definitely in the air of our Lower School community as we prepare to welcome everyone back to school in just a few weeks! The summer months have been filled with positive energy and spirit as we have focused on several key priorities that included:
- engaging in professional development experiences including enhancing and expanding the math curriculum scope and sequence
- hiring new faculty members
- designing new learning spaces including a Lower School Makerspace for STEM+ coursework
- planning for the year ahead, among other things!
Our ongoing partnership and work with the Center for Creative Leadership continues to have a tremendous positive impact on our faculty and staff professional development. After the successful completion of several training sessions for subsets of instructors, we are now taking a broad approach to the professional development of education-based facilitation skills. All faculty will participate in a year-long program with CCL to develop the facilitation skills that are critical for teaching in today’s 21st century classroom environment.
The new faculty members joining the Lower School bring with them fresh ideas, energy, and expertise that enhance and grow our team. They are innovative, knowledgeable, and passionate, and I am eager for you to meet them. In addition, we have familiar faces taking on new roles that I am very excited to share.

During the 2016 – 2017 school year, we will be encouraging and empowering our youngest Ravens to be critical thinkers and problem solvers. We will be looking for innovative ways to enhance their learning experience as it relates to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM+). And we will continue to grow in our understanding and appreciation of what it means to lead and learn in a diverse and inclusive community. We look forward to the partnership with all our families as we strive to raise successful, happy citizen-leaders — together.
