Why Ravenscroft?

I get asked this question a lot!

People want to know why I choose Ravenscroft as a parent, educator, and leader.

There are so many reasons I choose Ravenscroft, and if I had to capture those reasons in one statement, it would read:

“Ravenscroft is committed to the pursuit of excellence, connecting the head and the heart in the learning process, and investing in the growth and potential of ALL learners.”

And when I say ALL learners, I am including ALL the adults in our community along with ALL the children.

This became even more evident the past three months as our Lower School faculty and staff demonstrated a high level of engagement and dedication during what was considered their “summer vacation” to ensure continual growth as learners and leaders.

There was one group of teachers who spent time reviewing and enhancing our math curriculum scope and sequence, while another group reflected on our Lead From Here lessons and discussed ways to further integrate the competencies into our daily instruction.

We had a team of teachers begin the research and design work for our new Makerspace and started creating STEM challenges for all our grade levels. Teachers also attended local workshops through the Meredith Mathematics and Science Institutes to increase their knowledge and skills sets in STEM curriculum and instruction. And, we had a team begin a partnership with the Natural Museum of Science that will result in six workshops for educators on our campus this year through their UTOTES program (Using the Outdoors to Teach Experiential Science).

Teachers traveled with World View to Costa Rica and Nicaragua to expand their global perspectives, while others attended leadership summits including the BOLD Leadership Summit and NAIS Equity Design Lab  to learn more about what it means to be culturally inclusive.

The entire Lower School community engaged in summer reading and read either Whistling Vivaldi or Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain.  As a follow-up to the summer reading, we had an amazing guest speaker on our opening workdays, Rosetta Lee , who led a professional development session titled: Inclusion in the Early Years: Why, What, and How.

Every new faculty and staff member attended the Leadership Essentials training at The Center for Creative Leadership , and the entire Lower School Leadership Team engaged in a two-day retreat with CCL to develop the vision for Team Lower School this year.

All of this, plus teachers were continually in and out of their classrooms all summer planning and redesigning their learning spaces.

We truly have some of the most amazing educators who embody what it means to lead, learn, and serve!

“Ravenscroft is committed to the pursuit of excellence, connecting the head and the heart in the learning process, and investing in the growth and potential of ALL learners.”

This is WHY I CHOOSE RAVENSCROFT!
